For the artisan, craft is an end in itself. For you, the artist, craft is the vehicle for expressing your vision. Craft is the visible edge of art. - David Bayles

I know I am blessed. All of my kids live close to me, and when schedules are open we get together and enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes, they’ll even invite us to have a drink with them or a quick dinner. My daughter and I get together a lot. Secretly I pretend I’m her age and my whole world is open and my events of the day are relevant to hers. We giggle and cry. We gossip, smirk and hug. It is a wonderful time. Then Neil and my son-in-law join us and we start the process all over again. We had one of those nights a few weeks ago.

The place we like to visit sells bottled wine and beer, but also offers tastings and glasses. One of the options is to purchase a bottle and for a small fee, they’ll open the bottle and pour. A monetarily-reasonable option. We ordered a beautiful bottle of Rose and when he brought the bottle, I fell in love. The glass had intricate patterns on the side and my creative juices flew. I wasn’t sure at the time what I would make but I knew I had to make something from this glorious find.

I took the bottle home and cleaned it. This included using Goof Off to remove the label effectively.

Okay so it’s clean…what in the world do I make with this? Here is where fate stepped in. I had a beautiful dish soap dispenser, it added just the right amount of bubbles. Maybe I am the only one in the world who thinks this, but there is a perfect amount of soap to hand wash dishes. Enough so it makes it through every dish you need to wash but not so many bubbles that you spend the next eternity washing out the suds. Well my perfect soap dispenser crashed to the floor, broke and that’s when the light bulb went off. I filled the wine bottle with my dish soap and started using it.

Unfortunately, it added too much soap. I went through a lot of Dawn and my wash rag was never rinsed. Here is where another light bulb went off.

My first attempt was to use the wine’s cork. Neil drilled a hole in the cork. It worked, but unfortunately not fast enough for someone who wants to get out of the kitchen quickly.

So we had to come up with another idea...and that’s when it hit me. I bought an olive oil dispenser for next to nothing and now I have the perfect liquid soap dispenser.

Now I hope I have many more of the fun get-togethers…but what do I do with cases of wine bottles??

The way I look at it, it’s a good problem to have.

For a recap, any wine bottle is perfect. I have learned that they talk to you. Pick one that you would be proud to display in your kitchen. Clean the bottle thoroughly and use Goof Off or similar to completely remove the label. Finally, add an olive oil dispenser. I found a great deal on Amazon here.
